About Us

Chrissy Rhodes (Founder)
"The seed of an idea for The Workshop was sewn when I found myself having to join a very expensive 2 year City & Guilds soft furnishings course when all I really wanted to do was learn the basics, make my own stuff and save some money"
As a successful interior decorator with design skills she was continuously asked “how do you ......?” In response she decided the first classes to offer would be furniture painting quickly followed by upholstery/soft furnishings delivered by her very talented colleague Ali Breaden. She has a City & Guilds Certificate and an Advanced Diploma in Design & Upholstery, as well as a City & Guilds Certificate in Design & Textile Decoration
Emma Hodgson, a talented Primary School teacher with a love of anything ‘crafty’ joined them in 2007. She specialised in art as part of her teaching degree at University College, Scarborough and is very enthusiastic about anything creative
The three of them are excited to be passing on their considerable skills to those who want to make things but don't know how; who want to try something different either on their own or with a friend
Taking into account busy lifestyles the Workshop has adopted an up to date, more flexible approach to learning
Collaboratively, the talents of the three colleagues can be seen in their distinctive, one off pieces of beautifully re-styled furniture. View by visiting the showroom or take a look in the on-line shop
Responding to demand many new and exciting craft classes have since been added
